About

Born in Hong Kong and raised in London, Magnus Allan recently graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he studied Finance, Business Analytics, Entrepreneurship, and Art History.

Magnus Allan (British-Swedish, b. 1999) is a self-represented photographer specializing in urban, documentary, and landscape photography. His work predominantly documents neglected urban sites and architectural minutia that are subject to the decay that follows social conflict, industrial expansion, and rapid urbanization. By preserving a forgotten space in an image, he creates a wistful photographic elegy to past inhabitation or the hidden promises thereof. Influenced by the ancient aesthetic of wabi-sabi, he finds beauty in imperfection, mundanity, and the patina of age. Though, in keeping with the ancient principles, many of his scenes are asymmetric in arrangement, harmony is achieved through rigid geometric composition of line and shape that often results in near-abstraction.
